Scott Chapin is a contractor and owner of a Dust Gorilla Pro dust collector with a unique workshop in Upstate New York that he designed himself.
His Work
I do renovations, cabinet making, built-ins, and trim work for people. My career started with cabinet making for commercial customers. This evolved into custom work; and eventually, I got into the remodeling trade.
His Shop
I built the building in 2016 and created a section for my woodshop. A retractable curtain system divides the shop from the other areas, so it's my space. When planning the layout of my shop, I started thinking about the need for each tool to have a home. And I make use of vertical space on the wall whenever possible.
It's taken some years to get everything together. I keep adding to it. As you progress and add tools, you keep thinking you're done. But you're not. You're always changing things around and adding tools. And the beauty of it is, you can always add more dust ports.
The Dust Gorilla Pro makes a big difference in keeping my shop clean. It's an amazing system. Every machine has its own blast gate. Its Smart Boost allows you to run smaller tools. The machine understands suction control. It recognizes when you don't need as much suction. For example, a chop saw needs less suction than a table saw or planer. It's great because at the end of the day, you're not spending an hour cleaning up chips all over the floor. And you're not breathing in the harmful dust.
Thanks to Oneida Air's duct design team, I was able to look at their ductwork layout and know where all the pieces would go. They generated a schematic of how things would go together, which was very helpful.
The fact that my dust collector was made in America was a big reason why I bought from Oneida Air. Since it's built here, they have more control over their product. Anything built in the U.S. is always going to be better quality in this day and age.
