Can the Router Hood be modified in the field to fit a router that isn’t compatible with the Router Hood screw hole pattern?

Yes! The Dust-Free Router Hood is designed to fit most fixed and plunge base routers. However, if the hole pattern on the base of your router does not line up with at least two of the holes or slots on the Dust-Free Router Hood, the Router Hood base may be modified in the field. Click "Read More" for instructions. Note: the Router Hood is made from polycarbonate plastic, the same material used for bulletproof windows. It is extremely tough and drills easily without cracking. If you have difficulty customizing the Router Hood for your specific router, please contact our Customer Service Team at 866-387-8822 for assistance.

Will this fit my router?

The router hood includes a universal base plate that features multiple screw-hole patterns to fit nearly any portable router available on the market today. We provide a convenient, printable template (see Documents) that can be used to verify base plate compatibility. Click "Read More" to see a table that lists specific make/models compatible with our Router Hood.

Do you have a template for the base plate's screw-hole patterns?

You can find a printable template in the Documents section of the Router Hood's product page. After printing this off you can match the template to the screw holes on the bottom of your portable router to see if it matches. Make sure that you do not scale the PDF file when printing. Click here for a detailed list of compatible make/model routers.

Will this work with trim routers?

In general, no. There are very few trim routers that have sufficient room to attach the Router Hood's base plate and hose connection. One notable exception is the Dewalt DWP611. Please review our compatibility list for more information.

Can I use this with my router table?

No. This product is designed specifically for use with portable fixed-base and plunge style routers. Router tables require a different mechanism for dust collection.

Can this be used in non-edge routing i.e. through holes?

Yes. For inside edge routing the lower chip cover can be easily detached (no tools necessary) allowing the bit to sink in completely while waste is removed from above the bit.

Is this product compatible with guide bushings?

No. In our effort to make the router hood as universal as possible, inexpensive, easy to use, and effectively collect dust, we were unable to incorporate the use of guide bushings.

Can I connect the router hood to my dust collector?

No. This router hood is designed to connect to wet/dry vacuums and high pressure systems such as the Supercell. It is not intended for use with low pressure dust collectors with inlets 4" and larger.

Can I use this when cutting something other than wood?

Yes. We've successfully tested our router hood with softwoods, hardwoods, plywoods, and fiberboards such as MDF. Materials such as acrylics and other plastic also work very well with our Router Hood.

What makes the Dust-Free Router Hood different from similar products?

Very few router manufacturers offer dust extraction for their products, and those that do exist are often expensive and specific to a single make/model. Additionally, competitive router hoods typically only collect debris from above the edge and can easily clog as they are very narrow in design. Our Router Hood is compatible with almost any make/model portable router. Its unique design fully encloses the bit above and below the edge to capture up to 99% of dust and debris. Both the chip covers and the hose connect can rotate independently so that you can work freely.

What size hose should I use with the Router Hood?

We recommend using a hose that will fit over the router hood's 1.5" O.D. hose connection. Hoses inserted into the hood's hose port may be too narrow and could be clogged by larger debris. We also offer a 6.5' hose whip (with swiveling cuff) to connect to larger 2.5" diameter hoses.

What comes in the box when I buy it?

Contents include the Universal Base Plate (side A & B combine), the Dust Dome (which encloses the bit), the Hose Connect Nozzle (w/ quick release lock), the Deep Chip Cover (for larger router bits), and the Shallow Chip Cover (for minimal space beneath the router). A basic instruction sheet is also provided.

Is the router hood available in any other colors?

No, not at this time. The Router Hood is molded from high clarity, industrial plastics to maximize visibility both above and below the router bit.

I lost one of my chip covers, how do I buy a replacement?

You can buy a replacement part from our service department. The chip covers are only offered as a packaged item, so you will receive both the large and small chip covers with your purchase.

Looks like a great product but have you checked to see if this will fit Triton routers?

Due to the many different routers that are out there, we can't test it on all of them! Triton Routers are not on our list of routers we've tested for compatibility. You can try it out, and if it fits send us in a photo of your router with the type of router, and we can get it added to our list!
