Can the Router Hood be modified in the field to fit a router that isn’t compatible with the Router Hood screw hole pattern?

Yes! The Dust-Free Router Hood is designed to fit most fixed and plunge base routers. However, if the hole pattern on the base of your router does not line up with at least two of the holes or slots on the Dust-Free Router Hood, the Router Hood base may be modified by following the instructions below.

Note: the Router Hood is made from polycarbonate plastic, the same material used for bulletproof windows. It is extremely tough and drills easily without cracking. Remove the screws that hold the base plate to the bottom of your router and determine what size and type of drill bit (countersink or counterbore) you’ll need. Flat head screws require a countersink drill bit while pan head screws require a counterbore drill bit.

Turn router upside down. Be sure factory-installed base plate was removed from the router in Step 1. Place clear Router Hood base plate assembly onto base of router so that the Oneida Air logo reads correctly. Line up base plate’s holes and slots with as many of the router’s screw holes as possible while keeping the base plate centered. Attach the Router Hood base plate through the lined-up holes and slots using the screws removed in Step 1, again while keeping the base plate centered. Using a fine marker, carefully mark the location(s) of where additional screw holes must be drilled.

Remove the router hood base plate assembly and tape together in 2 places to keep the base plates in proper alignment. Carefully drill the marked location(s) with your selected countersink or counterbore drill bit, being careful not to countersink or counterbore too deeply into the top layer. Test the depth of the hole(s) with the factory screws to make sure the heads of the screws are slightly recessed below the surface of the face plate. Following the Router Hood assembly instructions, install the Router Hood using the newly drilled holes.
